Why does my pet itch?

Why does my pet itch?

Everyone knows an itchy dog or cat, or knows someone who has one.

Allergic skin disease is the most common reason for the annoying scratching, biting and licking that results when the skin becomes inflamed by hypersensitivity to one or more allergens (fleas, food, dust mites, pollens etc).

At RVC distressed animals and frustrated owners can look forward to a methodical and informed approach to diagnosis and treatment of the skin problem. Different allergies can look very alike!

Ear infections have underlying allergic skin disease as the cause in 90% or more of cases!

Of dogs that have Adverse Food Reaction 80% of them get ear disease as one of the signs, and 25% get only ear disease.

Of those dogs that have Atopic Dermatitis (from environmental allergens) up to 30% have Adverse Food Reaction as well.

60% of cats that have allergic skin disease have Flea Allergy Dermatitis and 10 % have food and environmental allergies as well .........Confused yet!? Add the secondary bacterial, yeast and fungal infections and things get very challenging.

At RVC we combine experience and expertise to a diagnostic plan tailored to your animal. Let's beat that itch!
