A word on tooth extractions:

We understand it's not always nice to hear your beloved pet requires tooth extractions. Rest assured, the decision to extract any teeth is based on strict criteria and always with your consent. If the thought of your pet losing teeth seems too daunting, consider these three points:

  1. Unlike human teeth, animal's teeth will not shift if surrounding teeth are removed

  2. Animals do not require their teeth for speech

  3. Pets do not need their teeth in order to eat.

Simply put,  if your veterinarian has recommended extraction,  the tooth is causing, or will cause pain therefore affect the welfare of the animal.

It is worth mentioning there are tooth sparing procedures available at RVC and will be discussed where appropriate.
