We have many pets come through our doors every day, there are a few that are extremely courageous and we'd like to give them the acknowledgement they deserve. Our Pawsome Pet programme intends to highlight some of the behind the scenes cases, and celebrate the bravery and caring nature of the pet loving families in our community.

 

Meet Blackie

Blackie is wonderful success story for RVC in 2023.

Blackie was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), this is a viral disease of cats that occurs around the world.  It is caused by a coronavirus - the same group of viruses that caused COVID-19, but this one only infects cats.  Unfortunately, until recently, this condition was invariably fatal, with an average life-expectancy of only 8 days from diagnosis!

Meet Eva

Meet Eva, a 6 year old Bull Terrier. She was introduced to RVC Surgeon Ben Leitch after she injured her cruciate when she jumped out the car. Eva loves going down to the river for swims with her owner, prior to surgery she was very lame and struggling. She is smashing her recovery, and doing really well post-op!

Meet Lily

Lily is a sweet little 11 year old who visited the dental vet to have two teeth extracted and a scale and polish. Although she is in her senior years, she didn't have too much tartar on her teeth at all, which is due to her owner being diligent about brushing them. If this wasn’t the case, Lily could have had a major procedure and a lot more removed.

Meet Baggage

Meet Baggage, she is 15 years old, she has very dedicated human parents who bring her to the Kaiapoi clinic for regular check-ups and fluids to avoid dehydration caused by kidney disease. These regular check-ups are very important, as they help to detect additional health concerns which may occur.

Introducing Jackson

His story is one that no owner wants to find themselves in, or wants their loved family pet to go through. It began when Jackson found himself a nice place to curl up and nap. Unfortunately the place he picked turned out to be the bottom of the neighbours bonfire pile.
