WATCH: Meet our Small Animal Head of Medicine, Veterinarian Sarah Montgomery. She joined RVC in 2023 with a comprehensive medicine background and a special interest in ultrasound, oncology, neurology and cardiology. She thrives in helping our small animal customers, and referral patients with the challenging, puzzling, often never-ending cases. Watch the video to learn more about Sarah.

Sarah Montgomery

Medicine Special Interest Veterinarian

Sarah has a postgraduate certificate in small animal medicine (PGCertSAM) and has worked in referral practice in the UK, first as a rotating intern at a large referral practice in England and then as a medicine/imaging clinician in a hospital in Northern Ireland. Prior to this she worked in general practice in the UK and NZ for over 5 years.

RVC is very excited to be able to offer her medicine referral service. The 24 hour hospital facilities mean that the patients get 24 hour veterinary care in house and the large team of amazing nurses means we can offer 1-to-1 care to any of the more intensive patients. We are pleased to be able to offer treatments that are difficult to organise in general practice such as blood transfusions, chemotherapy and CT scans.

Sarah is supported by two dedicated nurses, Kayla and Andrea.

KAYLA FEARY has over 10 years experience as a Veterinary nurse at RVC, and is passionate about delivering high-quality care to both patients and their people.

She has a strong interest in referral cases, supporting other clinics, and working closely with clients to achieve the best outcomes for their pets. And particularly enjoys managing complex cases, especially those that allow her to be involved from the diagnostic stage through treatment.

Being part of the process helping veterinarians uncover challenging medical conditions, through to assisting in the surgery to help resolve them, is incredibly rewarding for her.

At the heart of her work, is a genuine love for helping people help their pets. She strives to provide passionate support, clear communication, and a high standard of care every step of the way.

ANDREA PIEPER joined RVC in 2022 as a vet nurse with the Emergency Vet Hospital team, and to this day continues to have a special interest in emergency medicine. Her other special interests include client education and medical cases, so when the opportunity arose in 2025 to join the referral medicine team, she eagerly embraced the chance to expand her skills and work more closely with complex medical patients.

Andrea enjoys building strong relationships with both clients and their pets, helping owners better understand their animals’ health and treatment plans. She is passionate about providing compassionate care and supporting pets through every stage of their medical journey.
