Pre-lamb vaccinations for your ewes
Preventable infectious diseases can have a severe economic and welfare impact on your sheep! A complete vaccination program is the best form of protection; we strongly encourage vaccinating your flock against clostridial diseases.
Vaccinating ewes prior to lambing ensure that they are protected throughout the birth process, and the lamb(s) also receive protection via the colostrum (first milk) that they drink from the ewe.
If your ewe has been vaccinated previously, she requires a vaccination to be given 4-6 weeks before her lambing due date.
If she has not been vaccinated previously, or you are unsure, she requires TWO vaccinations to be given; these need to be given 2-4 weeks apart with the second dose given 4-6 weeks before their lambing due date.
Clostridial vaccines (5-in-1) can be purchased in single animal doses at our Rangiora clinic; if you require vaccinations for your ewes give the team a call to order this for collection.
If you have any questions about your ewes and the recommended pre-lambing vaccination program they should receive, feel free to give our large animal team a call – we are here to help!
